Walking in God’s Will: How to Surrender Your Business to Him

Building a business is no small task. As entrepreneurs, we often carry the weight of decision-making, planning, and striving for success. But somewhere in that striving, it’s easy to lose sight of the One who called us to this path in the first place. Surrendering your business to God doesn’t mean abandoning your hard work or ambition—it means aligning your plans with His and trusting Him to lead.

Surrender can be challenging, especially when we feel the pressure to make things happen. But Jesus reminds us in John 15:5, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing.” Let’s explore how you can walk in God’s will by fully surrendering your business to Him.

1. Recognize the Signs of Striving vs. Abiding

Striving happens when we rely solely on our own strength, feeling burdened and anxious about outcomes. Abiding, on the other hand, happens when we trust God to guide us and give us peace, even in uncertainty.

Ask yourself:

  • Am I overworking to the point of burnout? Striving often feels frantic and exhausting.
  • Do I feel anxious about my business outcomes? Abiding brings peace, knowing God is in control.
  • Am I praying over my decisions, or making them on my own?

If you notice striving in your life, it’s a signal to pause and invite God back into your business decisions.

2. Practice Surrender Through Daily Prayer and Scripture

Surrender isn’t a one-time act; it’s a daily choice to lay your business at God’s feet and trust Him to lead. Prayer and Scripture are powerful tools to help you do this.

Here’s how to make surrender a daily practice:

  • Start your workday with prayer: Ask God for wisdom and guidance in your decisions (James 1:5).
  • Pray over your clients and team: Dedicate your relationships to God, asking for His will to be done.
  • Meditate on Scripture: Verses like Proverbs 3:5-6 (“Trust in the Lord with all your heart…and he will make your paths straight”) can anchor your heart in His promises.

When you center your business on prayer and God’s Word, you invite His presence into every aspect of your work.

3. Trust God’s Timing and Provision in All Things

One of the hardest parts of surrendering is letting go of the need to control outcomes. We want success on our timeline, but God often works in ways that stretch our patience and faith.

Trusting His timing means believing that He knows what’s best for your business—even when delays or challenges arise. Philippians 4:19 reminds us, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”

Practical ways to trust His provision:

  • Celebrate small wins: Recognize God’s hand in the little victories, not just the big ones.
  • Take steps of faith: Say yes to opportunities that feel aligned with His leading, even if they stretch you.
  • Let go of comparison: Your business journey is unique, and God’s plans for you are perfectly timed.

When you release your grip on the “how” and “when,” you make room for God to work in ways that exceed your expectations.

True Success Comes From Walking in His Will

Surrendering your business to God doesn’t mean giving up your dreams—it means trusting Him to refine them and lead you to something even greater. When you choose to abide in Him, your work becomes an act of worship, and your business becomes a tool for His kingdom.

Psalm 37:5 encourages us, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.” Success in God’s eyes is not about revenue or recognition—it’s about faithfulness, impact, and walking in step with His will.

This week, take time to evaluate where you might be striving instead of abiding. Start your day with prayer, meditate on Scripture, and trust that God is working behind the scenes for your good. Surrender is not about losing control—it’s about placing your business in the hands of the One who holds all things together.
